Forelle pear is an organic variety of pear with yellow skin that is speckled with a few red freckles. These freckles (known as lenticels) signal the pear’s level of maturity. Younger Forella pears will be green. The red color is always present. Only ripe Forella pears will have a color that highlights the best virtues of them. Ripe Forella pears are fragrant, their flesh firm and crisp but also juicy with flavors.

Ripe Forella pears are identifiable by the color transition from green to yellow, as well as a brightening of the red lenticels. Forella pears are not optimal for cooking or baking. But their small size makes them a great centerpiece for holidays.
